Fish Tanks and Tropical Fish as Pets

If you’ve considered getting a pet have you thought about tropical fish? You have to decide how much time you want to devote to your new pet. Some pets require a lot of attention while some don’t require much at all. For example, a dog will require so much attention that if you’re not going to be home constantly, a dog probably isn’t the best idea for a pet. Cats don’t require as much attention as dogs but they still require attention. If you’re not going to be home that often and want a very low maintenance pet, why don’t you start your very own fish tank? An aquarium fish tank doesn’t take much maintenance at all and it effectively brightens nearly any room in your home.

Ask Plenty Of Questions

To start, visit your local aquarium store and tell the sales representative that you’re interested in starting your first aquarium fish tank. They’ll likely be able to point you in the right direction and can assist in providing you with everything you need to sustain a group of your favorite fish for a long time.  For instance, you’ll first need to decide what size of aquarium fish tank you want. Once that’s decided, you’ll need a pump and filter to keep the water clean, you’ll need a temperature gauge to make sure the water isn’t too warm or too cold so that your fish don’t die and you’ll need food as well as other materials to maintain your fish once you set your aquarium fish tank up.

Aquarium Fish TankOnce you’ve set your aquarium fish tank up the hardest part is nearly done. It doesn’t take much at all to maintain your fish tank. You may need to clean the tank every now and again but if you have a good pump and filter, the work is mostly done for you. All you need to do is make sure that your fish are fed to help them live as long as they’re able.

An aquarium fish tank looks great in any room of your home. It can also add a little something special to your office. Especially if you fill your aquarium fish tank with brightly colored fish, the effect it gives off is amazing.

Once you become more experienced, you can experiment with different types of fish or even different types of environments. For instance, instead of the normal aquarium fish tank, you could start a salt water fish tank. Salt water fish are more expensive and are harder to care for than regular freshwater fish but they look amazing and, for that reason, many people say that the money is well worth it.

However, to start out, you’ll want to get yourself some regular fish to practice. There’s nothing worse than buying a bunch of expensive fish only to have them die on you. Practice makes perfect and perfect practice makes for a great looking aquarium fish tank.

Tropical Fish and Fish Keeping

The fascinating hobby of keeping tropical fish is now enjoyed by millions of people around the globe and can be a rewarding and enriching experience. Before embarking on setting up your very own aquarium and bringing a living piece of ocean into your home, there are some things you need to learn about to succeed at your efforts. Learning about the fish you are interested in keeping, as well as about the plants, tanks, biotypes, lighting and filters and other details will ensure that diseased, unhappy fish will never be your problem.  The setting up and maintenance of an aquarium might be an expensive hobby, and thus it is important to do it properly with failure as no option.

Tropical FishWith well over 150 tropical fish species to choose from, you are certainly spoilt for choice. Deciding on the types of fish to include in your tank will be the base from which you will build your whole fish tank around. If you are a complete novice to maintaining a fish tank, you shouldn’t let it limit your choice of fish but it might be worth considering fish that are easier to care for. A colorful addition to any fish tank is a cherry barb. It is a great fish for the beginner to start with as it has a high water parameter tolerance and is a peaceful and community fish. A serpea tetra is of a more colorful variety of tetras and has the slightly bad reputation of being a fin nipper. Such behavior is usually allowed for because they are unable to be kept in small schools of 6 or more. Still it is a beautiful addition to any beginner fish keeper’s tank and should space allow for a small school of these fish, the serpea will definitely contribute to the aesthetic value of any tank. There are just so many fish to choose from.

Another deciding factor to reach is whether you will use a glass or acrylic tank. There are several advantages and disadvantages to both acquiring a glass and an acrylic tank, Whereas with a glass tank that is heavier than its acrylic counterpart, and more sensitive to impact it is not as susceptible to scratches yet may turn out to be more expensive than a glass tank. Huge variety in tank decorations offers a cost effective way of adding an authentic, lifelike ambiance to your fish tank. The adding of plants and ornaments offer a wonderful way to have one’s own personality shine through the design of the fish tank or stick to traditional concepts of adornment.

In essence when you do decide to take on the rewarding task of starting your own tropical fish tank, being made aware of the effort and commitment needed to sustain it healthily will benefit you in the long run by preparing you for the work and dedication required. Yet being able to enjoy such nature in your home will certainly be worth the trouble.
